SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — “Octomom” Nadya Suleman isn’t done taking punches. The Springfield, Mass., newspaper The Republican reports that Celebrity Boxing Federation promoter Damon Feldman announced Monday that Suleman will be the featured fighter in a bout in Springfield.
Suleman drew criticism and was dubbed the Octomom in 2009 when she gave birth to eight babies. She was an unemployed single mother who already had six children. She says she was addicted to having children. Her octuplets are the world’s longest-surviving set.
Feldman says he’s looking for a woman who wants to get in the ring and “fight this well-known mom.”
The fight will consist of three 1-minute rounds. The women will wear oversized gloves and protective head gear.
Suleman fought in a similar match in New Jersey in June. It was a draw.
Bob Barker gives $230,000 to chimpanzee refuge
LOS ANGELES — Animal activist Bob Barker has gone to bat for dogs, cats, whales, pigeons, elephants and all kinds of other animals. Five chimpanzees are the beneficiaries of his latest donation.
Chimp Haven in Keithville, La., said his gift of $230,000 will pay to expand the 200-acre habitat to make room for the five chimps and care for them for one year.
Barker said the chimps came from a Texas research laboratory that went bankrupt.
Barker, who lives in Los Angeles, says the chimps have spent their whole lives on concrete in cages but now they will live in the forest and because they are curious and smart, they are expected to adapt well.
The 87-year-old Barker spent 50 years on television, retiring in 2008 from “The Price is Right.”

Kings of Leon cancels tour
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill is suffering from vocal problems and exhaustion, forcing the band on Monday to cancel its U.S. tour.
The cancellation comes three days after Followill left the stage mid-show in Dallas due to what he called “excessive” and “unbearable” heat. But other members of the family band said over the weekend that its problems go beyond dehydration, something that wasn’t addressed in a Monday statement.
“Thanks to all our true fans for understanding and helping us through this hard time,” Caleb Followill said on Twitter.
Followill’s exit led to vows to replay the show by his brothers, drummer Nathan and bassist Jared, and cousin guitarist Matthew on Twitter. But Jared Followill also acknowledged the band has “internal sicknesses & problems” that go beyond dehydration.
