• Maine State Ballet in Falmouth collaborates with baritone Aaron Engebreth and pianist Alison d’Amato to present “The Poet’s Love,” a song cycle composed by Robert Schumann in 1840.

Maine State Ballet artistic director Linda MacArthur Miele created the work with Engebreth and d’Amato, who co-direct the Florestan Recital Project.

The ballet fuses classical music, romantic poetry and dance.

“The Poet’s Love” will premiere at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Maine State Ballet Theater, 348 U.S. Route 1. The Thursday performance benefits Maine State Ballet’s ongoing performances and programs. An hors d’oeuvres reception begins at 7 p.m., and the piece will be introduced and performed at 8. Tickets cost $50 and $75, and reservations can be made through mainestateballet.org or by calling 781-3587.

Maine State will also perform “The Poet’s Love” along with two of Miele’s recently created ballets, “Souvenir” and “Napoli,” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Aug. 12-13. Tickets for those performances are $20 for adults; $15 for seniors and students.

COMING UP

• At 8 p.m. Aug. 13, the Celebration Barn Theater in South Paris will host a performance by Karen Montanaro and Ginger Ibex, a Boston band. “The Journey” combines Montanaro’s original mime-dance with music composed by Sharon Crumrine of Ginger Ibex.
