It can be terrifying to meet the family of your boyfriend or girlfriend.

Using that measure, Ashley Hebert faced terror times four Monday night.

Hebert, 27, was seen on Monday’s episode of the ABC reality show “The Bachelorette” traveling around the country to meet the families of the four men still in the running.

The season began in May with 25 men vying for Hebert – a dental student from Madawaska – but she had narrowed the field to four by Monday night.

Monday’s “hometown dates” episode showed Hebert having casual chats with four mothers – chats that quickly turned into interrogations.

“He looks at you with love in his eyes, but you’re with all these other men,” said Barbara, the mother of construction manager J.P. (last names aren’t used). “How do you do that?”

In Atlanta, Hebert met the large Greek family of Constantine, who runs a restaurant. Constantine’s mother was seen telling the camera she thought the two young people couldn’t truly know whether they want to spend their lives together after several episodes of a TV show.

“Right now your life is wonderful, jetting around the world on these dates, but it’s different in the real world,” she said to Hebert. “Would you be willing to relocate here, to be part of this?”

Hebert said she would be willing to relocate, if that was very important to the person she loved. It was a twist from “The Bachelor,” when Brad Womack said one of the reasons he didn’t choose Hebert was because she seemed unwilling to move to his hometown – Austin, Texas.

Hebert got the opportunity to be the star of “The Bachelorette” after finishing third on ABC’s companion show “The Bachelor” earlier this year. On that show she was one of 30 women vying for one man, but on this show she’s the one woman who 25 men have been trying to woo. On “The Bachelor,” she brought Womack to Madawaska to meet her family.

On Monday’s episode, Hebert was seen in Sonoma, Calif., meeting the family of Ben, a winemaker. Ben himself put the pressure on Hebert by telling her he had only brought one other woman home to meet his family … ever.

In the countryside of Chadd’s Ford, Pa., Hebert met the family of Ames, a portfolio manager. Ames’ sister Serena took Hebert aside.

“I can tell he has feelings for you – what are your feelings for him?” Serena asked.

“Our relationship is going slower than some of the others,” Hebert said.

After their chat Serena told the camera: “Does she have the same passion and spark for him as he does for her? I’m not sure.”

Serena was right. At the end of the episode, Hebert sent Ames home.

At the end of Monday’s episode, a preview of the last two episodes of “The Bachelorette” showed Hebert’s family coming to visit her, and apparently not approving of her choice or choices. A tearful Hebert is seen calling her sister a bad name in the clip.

Apparently on reality television, romance is truly a family affair. For better, or for worse.
