An early afternoon accident may still be slowing northbound traffic on Interstate 295.

Maine State Police say a trailer carrying carnival ride equipment jackknifed near Yarmouth, around mile marker 17.  Authorities responded shortly after 1 p.m. and both lanes were closed for about an hour causing traffic to back up for miles.

Authorities say there were no injuries and debris from the site has been cleared. The accident remains under investigation.
