BUXTON – In a crowded race for two Buxton selectmen seats, two incumbents are facing five challengers, including two former selectmen.
Deputy Town Clerk Brenda Brown said Tuesday the seven candidates for selectmen are Jean Harmon, Bob Libby, Penny Booker, Dan Collomy, Linda Pulsoni, Cheryl Emery and Susan Orfant Gillette.
The deadline to file nomination papers was May 2. The secret ballot election will be on Tuesday, June 14, in the annual town meeting. Both selectmen seats are for three-year terms.
Harmon, who is present chairwoman of the board, and Libby are both incumbents. Collomy and Pulsoni are former members of the panel.
Veteran Buxton Town Clerk John Myers Jr. is running unopposed for a three-year term.
For other elected positions, David Savage Sr. is also running uncontested for a three-year Planning Board seat. The term of Caroline Segalla, secretary of that board, is also expiring, but no one submitted papers for her term.
Brown said one Planning Board seat for two years became available when Scott Havu, who moved from town, resigned, but no one took out papers.
With four Budget Committee seats available, Jacob Stoddard is seeking a one-year term. Current Budget Committee members Richard Emery Jr., Dennis Santolucito and Booker did not file nominations and a former Budget Committee member, Dianne Senechal, a selectwoman, resigned from the Budget Committee.
No one submitted nomination papers for a three-year Buxton director to serve on the Maine School Administrative District 6 board. The expiring term is that of Hilda Lynch.
