Seeking to expand its New England presence, Portland-based accounting and consulting firm Baker Newman Noyes opened an office in Boston today.
Managing Principal Charles Hahn said the move is partly a response to his firms’ continued growth in Massachusetts. In recent years, he said, Baker Newman Noyes has been working with more Boston-based clients.
“To do business in Massachusetts is one thing. But to have office space and hire employees and make that commitment – it’s a big deal for us,” Hahn said.
He added that a business relationship with Baker Tilly International, a membership group for independently owned accounting firms, also drove the expansion.
With an office in Boston, he said, Baker Newman Noyes has greater access to business referrals received through Baker Tilly International
The firm’s office will be at One Financial Center in Boston.
Baker Newman Noyes, which was founded in 1995 in Portland, has hired John Redmond, a former Ernst & Young staffer, to work at the Boston office, and plans to hire additional staff.
The company has 200 employees, yearly revenues of $30 million and offices in Portland and Manchester and Portsmouth, N.H.
Baker Newman Noyes was named one of the country’s best accounting firms in 2010 by the newsletter INSIDE Public Accounting.
The firm provides accounting and tax services, as well as health care, information technology and employee benefit consulting.
