The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an early-morning fire in a four-unit apartment building in Sanford that sent three people to the hospital.
Firefighters from Sanford responded to a call at 12:22 a.m. today with three engines, a ladder truck and two ambulances. They found heavy fire in a second-floor apartment at 35 Lebanon St.
All occupants got out of the building safely. Three were transported to Goodall Hospital, two for smoke inhalation and one for a pre-existing medical condition.
The other three apartments sustained smoke and water damage and are not fit for habitation. The Red Cross is assisting with finding shelter for the displaced residents.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze within an hour.
