GORHAM – After a stellar senior season, it only seems fitting that Gorham’s Mia Rapolla leads the list of local girls basketball all-stars recently released by the SMAA.
Rapolla, who led the Rams to a 14-4 regular season record and a berth in the Western Maine semifinals, was named to the All-SMAA first team, the only local player so honored. But the accolades didn’t stop there, Rapolla was also selected to the all-defensive team as well.
In addition to Rapolla, Gorham also placed senior Natalie Egbert on the SMAA’s honorable mention list and freshman Jessica Rexrode on the league’s all-rookie team. The Rams’ Caroline Fogarty and Grace Sunnell were named to the SMAA’s all-academic team.
Westbrook senior Katelyn Benson was selected to the SMAA’s honorable mention list and Blue Blazes’ freshman Paige Baldwin joined Rexrode on the league’s all-rookie team. The Blazes were also recognized for their work in the classroom, with Vanessa Bradbury, Jacquelyn Harris, Jessica Harris, Emily Marean, Bethany Swanson and Elizabeth Torrey all being named to the league’s all-academic team.
The Bonny Eagle Scots also were honored by the SMAA. Senior Sarah Assante and junior Alicia Hoyt represented the school on the SMAA’s honorable mention list. Sophomore Shannon Sanborn was Bonny Eagle’s representative on the all-rookie team and Assante was also named to the SMAA’s all-defensive team. Additionally, the Scots’ Nicole Taylor was named to the league’s all-academic team.
