WINSLOW — The undefeated Brewer High hockey team left no doubt it’s the team to beat in Eastern Class B, if not the state, on Saturday night. The Witches dominated No. 4 Lawrence from the opening faceoff, taking an 8-0 win in a regional semifinal at Sukee Arena.
Brewer (18-0-1) will face Houlton/Hodgdon in the regional final. Lawrence ends the season at 8-10-2.
Kyle Alexander and Lucas Lamond each had a hat trick for the Witches. Alexander’s third goal came at 8:38 of the third period and gave Brewer a 7-0 lead. Lamond tallied his third goal at 13:01, scoring on a power play.
The Witches got three goals in just over four minutes of the first period to take a 3-0 lead. Alexander scored on a rebound at 6:27. A minute-and-a-half later, Spencer Valley’s goal made it 2-0. Lamond then scored his first of the game at 10:32 on a redirected shot.
Alexander and Lamond each scored in the second period as the Witches pushed their lead to 5-0. Jacob Chapman’s power-play goal early in the third made it 6-0.
Brewer outshot the Bulldogs 40-8. Lawrence’s best chance to score came on a Matt Woodbury breakaway late in the second period, but Brewer goalie Adam Cossette turned away Woodbury’s shot.
Brad MacKenzie had 32 stops for the Bulldogs.
The game got chippy in the final minutes, and Lawrence’s Vincent Bernardi was issued a 10-minute misconduct with 59 seconds left.
