AUGUSTA – A legislative panel unanimously endorsed Chandler Woodcock of Farmington for commissioner of the the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife on Wednesday.
Woodcock, a former state senator and registered Maine guide, was the 2006 Republican nominee for governor.
“I believe Chandler Woodcock will bring a unique and well-suited set of skills to the position of commissioner,” said Carlisle McLean, the new senior natural resources adviser for Gov. Paul LePage, a Republican. McLean presented Woodcock to the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee for his confirmation hearing.
A former English teacher and basketball coach Woodcock currently serves as the executive director of the Maine Harness Horsemen’s Association.
Legislators asked Woodcock about his positions on Sunday hunting, the preservation of Maine’s deer herd, bear-trapping and budget issues before taking a vote.
Woodcock’s nomination was endorsed by a variety of Maine sporting groups, such as Maine Audubon, the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and the Maine Professional Guides Association.
