AUGUSTA — Second-seeded Boothbay advanced to the Western Class C boys’ basketball semifinals with a 73-60 win over No. 10 Traip Academy on Monday afternoon at the Augusta Civic Center.

The Seahawks (16-3) took a 35-33 lead into halftime and pulled away in the second half.

Anthony DiMauro scored 29 points for the Seahawks, who held off a late surge by Traip.

Traip got a pair of 3-pointers from Mark McKenney in the fourth quarter, his second closing the gap to 67-60 with 45.9 seconds to play.

But the Rangers were forced to foul down the stretch and the Seahawks hit 6 of 8 free throws to clinch the victory.

Traip finished the season 9-9.

“Overall, we’ll take the year in getting here,” said Traip Coach Jeremy Paul. “I told these guys they’ve got nothing to hang their heads about. They left it all out there.”

Paul said his team took a step back on offense in the second half after shooting well in the first two quarters.

“Any shot we wanted we were getting (in the first half),” he said. “Ultimately, it was defense (that hurt us), which is frustrating because we spent time working on it. We wanted to limit their dribble penetration.”

Traip got 15 points from Nathan Westman, 14 from McKenney, and 12 from Brian Goda.
