SOUTH PORTLAND — Roughly 150 businesspeople, mostly women, gathered this morning at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks for the Maine Million Dollar Women’s Forum, a networking and education event for female professionals.

In its third year, the forum is an opportunity for businesswomen to learn tips from women who have already succeeded in the business world, said Susan Baracco, president of networking group Echelon Circles, which hosted the event.

In previous years, Baracco said female entrepreneurs spoke at the event. This year, however, the speakers were women with high-level corporate jobs in industries typically dominated by men. The topic was gender and business.

Panelists included SMRT President Ellen Belknap, Central Maine Power President Sara Burns, Pierce Atwood Partner Elizabeth Butler and Bath Iron Works Project Manager Lisa Read.

They spoke about changes in their industries, improvements in workplace diversity and workplace challenges women still face.
