MACHIAS — More than 100 people gathered at the University of Maine at Machias performing arts center to participate in a public hearing held by lawmakers on the Committee on Regulatory Fairness and Reform this afternoon.

The hearing is the third of seven scheduled public sessions hosted around the state, designed to allow Mainers from all over to weigh in on regulatory reforms suggested by Gov. Paul LePage, a Republican.

“It’s not often Augusta comes to us,” said Jeanne Guisinger of Perry.

People spoke both in favor and against changing some of Maine’s current regulations. Testimony focused mostly on environmental and agricultural rules.
