On Monday’s episode of ABC’s “The Bachelor,” Maine native Ashley Hebert participated in the dating equivalent of sudden death overtime.
And she won.
Hebert, who’s from Madawaska, was picked at random to go on one of the show’s dreaded two-on-one dates, with bachelor Brad Womack and fellow contestant Ashley Spivey.
The dates are dreaded by “Bachelor” contestants because at the end, the bachelor must immediately eliminate one of the two women from the show.
Hebert was emotional when she appeared on last week’s episode, over not getting enough time alone with Womack. She was emotional again Monday, when she realized she was competing head-to-head with Spivey.
Spivey called Hebert “my best friend” on the show.
“I’m so sad because either Ashley goes home or I go home,” said Hebert, 26. “This is definitely going to be the hardest date of my life.”
The date was at the Las Vegas set of Cirque du Soleil’s “Viva Elvis” show. The three rehearsed to appear in the show.
Hebert, who is studying dentistry in Philadelphia, is also a dance instructor, and was thrilled by the idea. “I honestly have no words,” Hebert said when she saw that she would be performing, including numbers in which she flew over the stage suspended by cables.
Only one woman could be in the “Elvis” show, and Womack picked Hebert. Spivey broke down in tears.
Hebert and Womack kissed after Spivey left, and later they were seen laughing and dancing in the “Elvis” show.
Hebert survived the rest of the “Bachelor” episode Monday without being sent home, which means she is one of eight women left. When the new season of “Bachelor” began on Jan. 3, there were 30 women.
The series finale is scheduled for March 14, when Womack is tentatively scheduled to propose to one of the women.
