Kennebunk & Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce interim Executive Director James Fitzgerald has been named permanent executive director of the business group.

He succeeds Karen Duddy, who left the group at the end of May.

A former U.S. Air Force captain, Fitzgerald worked at Unum in Portland and established his own firm, Technology Consulting Company. He later worked as a real estate broker for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Kennebunk.

Tina Hewett-Gordon, chair of the Chamber’s board of directors, said the search committee was impressed with Fitzgerald’s ability to identify with members and his understanding of the differences between Kennebunk and Kennebunkport.

She also praised Fitzgerald’s ability to involve local towns and municipalities in efforts to promote local businesses.
