Organized 1963 March on Washington, where he gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech

Received Nobel Peace Prize, 1964, for his work as a civil rights leader

Assassination:

Shot and killed in Memphis, Tenn., April 4, 1968. He is buried in Atlanta.
