Ashley Hebert of Madawaska will begin dating tonight.

In public. On national TV.

Hebert, a 26-year-old dentist, is one of the 30 female contestants on the new season of the ABC hit reality show “The Bachelor.” The season premiere is tonight from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. It can be seen locally on WMTW (Ch. 8).

The potential object of Hebert’s affection will be Brad Womack, a 38-year-old businessman who has been called “the most hated Bachelor” because he shocked the show’s fans in 2007 by choosing neither of the two female finalists. Those two women will be on the show this time as well.

On her ABC website profile, Hebert lists Madawaska – a paper mill town near the Canadian border more than six hours north of Portland – as her hometown and notes that she “understands” French. She also says she considers herself a romantic.

“I watch all the movies, think about ideal romantic dates and am very hopeful for extreme romance to enter my life.”

The show will air Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
