AUGUSTA — Gov.-elect Paul LePage today named nine people to a budget work group who will help craft the new two-year state budget.
Leading the group will be Rep. Sawin Millet, R-Waterford, a former education and finance commissioner. Democrat Ryan Low, who served as Gov. John Baldacci’s chief budget commissioner, has also agreed to serve on the committee.
LePage said paying the state’s debt to the hospitals, addressing the state’s pension liabilities, and cutting the size and scope of state government will be his top budget priorities.
Others on the work group include Sen. Peter Mills, R-Cornville; Rep. Sally Lewin, R-Eliot; Mary Mayhew, a former hospital association vice president; and Tarren Bragdon, executive director of the Maine Heritage Policy Center.
