BIDDEFORD — Independent Shawn Moody handily won the governorship of Maine in the mock elections held Thursday at Biddeford High School.

Students favored Moody, with 51 votes, while independent Eliot Cutler came in second at 32 votes and Democrat Libby Mitchell took 26. Republican Paul LePage received 18 votes and independent Kevin Scott got four.

In Congressional District 1, Chellie Pingree beat out Dean Scontras, 90 to 43.

On state Question 1, the casino in Oxford County, students voted in favor, 102 to 40.

On state Question 2, regarding dental clinics, students were narrowly opposed, 71 to 68.

The Land For Maine’s Future question, number three on the state ballot, was approved by students, 79 to 62.

The mock election was organized by social sciences teacher Michael Redmond.
