BANGOR — Bangor International Airport is getting a $500,000 federal grant to help it expand its flight service to Chicago and Washington, D.C.
The award was one of 19 proposals selected under the Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development Program.
The grant would be used to provide a fund to entice United Airlines to offer regional jet service from Bangor to Chicago and/or Washington, D.C. The money would be set aside to reduce United’s risk in entering a new market by providing funds to the airline if revenues from the new service don’t cover operating costs.
