SOUTH PORTLAND — Southern Maine Community College’s annual student literary magazine has won national recognition from the Community College Humanities Association.

Writ took second-place in the eastern division of the annual contest, competing against community colleges in Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts.

Writ was first published in 2006, shortly after Maine converted its technical schools to community colleges and SMCC augmented its liberal arts programs.

Produced each spring and sold on campus and at local bookstores, the 80-page magazine features works of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and art.
