Hyundai is donating $100,000 to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, part of a nationwide effort to help fight cancer in kids.
The donation from the car maker and its dealers will be presented at a news conference Monday at the Scarborough campus of Maine Medical Center, where the cancer program is based.
The grant will help establish a telemedicine program to improve access to treatment in rural Maine and allow children battling cancer to spend more time at home, a hospital spokesman said.
The donation is part of a national effort to battle childhood cancer by Hyundai Motor America and its dealers. The “Hyundai Gives Hope on Wheels” initiative, which began in 1998, is running a national television commercial to raise awareness and donating a total of $6.8 million to commemorate Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
