BOOTHBAY — The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is celebrating the opening of its newest feature, the 2-acre Bibby and Harold Alfond Children’s Garden.

The garden is aimed at children and has features based on books with Maine themes or by Maine authors, such as Robert McCloskey’s “Blueberries for Sal,” E.B. White’s “Charlotte’s Web” and Barbara Cooney’s “Miss Rumphius.”

The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, which opened in 2007, is located on a 248-acre plot and features a number of individual ornamental gardens, each with a distinctive theme.
