STANDISH — Fryeburg Academy on Wednesday rallied from a three-run deficit for the third time in the playoffs this season, getting four unearned runs in the fifth inning to beat Maranacook 4-3 in the Western Class B softball championship game.
The win provided the top-seeded Raiders with their third consecutive regional championship and sent them to the Class B state championship game against the Eastern champ Saturday at 4 p.m. at Brewer High School.
Maranacook committed three errors in the fifth as the Raiders erased a 3-0 deficit. Brylin Walker drove in the tying run with a single and later scored on the Black Bears’ final error of the inning.
Fryeburgh graduated six starters from last year’s state championship team and few expected it to be back in this game. The Raiders are now 18-1.
Charlotte Lewis was the winning pitcher, working out of a couple of early-inning jams.
