Westbrook City Councilors will meet tonight to decide whether to approve the 2010-2011 municipal and school budgets.
Residents will have the final say on the school budget at a referendum vote on June 8.
If the $56.7 million budget is approved as proposed, the city’s property tax rate will remain at $16.70 per $1,000 of assessed value.
City officials anticipate about $25.8 million in non-property tax revenues, a slight reduction over this year, but say the budget will not raise property taxes.
“It’s tremendous in this economic climate to put together a zero tax increase budget while maintaining and improving city services,” said Michael Foley, a city councilor who served on the council’s finance committee. “We’ve been responsible for a long time. For the past four years, we have been working to build a sustainable budget that streamlines and makes adjustments for efficiencies.”
The meetinig will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at Westbrook High School.
