CAPE ELIZABETH — Residents will be able to weigh in on the proposed municipal and school budget next week.
The Town Council is holding a public hearing Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
The overall proposed budget of $34.1 million is up 2 percent from the current budget. It is estimated to result in a property tax increase of 1.8 percent, or 32 cents. The new property tax rate would be $17.54 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
The school portion of the budget is $20.7 million, up 3.4 percent from the current budget. It would lead to a net reduction in staff of 2.15 full-time positions.
Spending for town services is flat and down 1.3 percent for community services. County tax is down 2 percent.
On Tuesday, the Town Council is expected to adopt the municipal portion of the budget and set the bottom line figure for the schools. The school budget will go before the voters in a budget validation referendum June 8.
