PORTLAND — The principal of Reiche Community School will become the principal of East End Community School on July 1, Superintendent Jim Morse announced today.
Marcia Gendron has been assistant principal and principal of Reiche elementary school, in the city’s West End, since 2000. She will replace Carol Dayn, who has announced her resignation from the East End elementary school.
Morse said he decided to move Gendron to the larger school because she has demonstrated her ability to work with a diverse student population and its challenges. Both schools have many immigrant, underprivileged and academically advanced students, he said.
Reiche is an aging 1970s school with about 300 students. East End was built a few years ago, has about 400 students and follows an Expeditionary Learning model.
Morse said he will soon advertise the Reiche principal’s position and a new assistant principal position at East End, which no longer will have three teacher leader positions.
He said applicants for the assistant principal’s job at King Middle School are being screened this week and will be interviewed next week.
He plans to announce the nominee for the Deering High School principal’s position at next week’s School Committee meeting, he said.
