PORTLAND — City voters today overwhelmingly approved an $89.9 million school budget for the coming year with a vote of 1,697 to 682, according to CIty Clerk Linda Cohen.

But they were divided on whether the annual school budget referendum should continue, narrowly approving the yearly event with a vote of 1,192 to 1,179.

Cohen said 2,381 Portlanders went to the polls — about 5 percent of the city’s 47,000 active voters.
