The second annual Maine African Film Festival begins Tuesday in Portland and runs through April 10.
The event includes panel discussions, workshops for local students and question-and-answer sessions with film directors.
The festival begins on Tuesday with an opening reception for Lemi Ghariokwu, a Nigerian artist and designer who has created more than 2,000 album-cover images, including covers for albums by Bob Marley and Fela Kuti.
The reception is followed by the first film of the festival, “Sex, Okra and Salted Butter,” at 7:30 p.m.
All films will be screened at Nickelodeon Cinemas in Portland, except for a few children’s films, which will be screened at the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine in Portland.
