President Obama has signed the disaster declaration for Maine stemming from the winter storms and flooding between Feb. 23 and March  2, according to the White House.

Gov. John Baldacci sought the declaration which means state and local governments are eligible for some reimbursement of money spent dealing with the emergency, like road repairs, overtime costs and preventive maintenance to stop future flooding and related problems.

State government and local governments in York, Cumberland, Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Knox counties are eligible for 75 percent of the storm-related costs to be reimbursed by the federal government.

Individual counties and the state exceeded the thresholds necessary for a disaster declaration. The state documented $2.3 million in damage from the storms, which included record wind gusts.
