The Maine Public Health Association and state and local agencies launched a new Web site and education campaign today to help Mainers prepare for severe storms and other emergencies.
The Get ME Ready campaign is designed to help people prepare for disasters or illnesses that keep them home, maybe without power, heat or clean water. The campaign will include public service announcements featuring doctors and veterinarians and will use the Web site (at www.getMEready.org), e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter.
Tina Pettingill, director of the Maine Public Health Association, introduced the campaign at a news conference this morning in Portland. “Here in Maine we like to think we’re ready for anything,” she said. “So let’s make sure we are.”
Dora Ann Mills, director of the Maine Center for Disease Control, will be featured in the campaign urging Mainers to put together plans and emergency kits with food, water, medicines and other supplies. The Maine Emergency Management Agency, the city of Portland and the American Red Cross of Southern Maine also are helping with the campaign.
