State police continue to investigate the death of a Limington woman who was killed by a gunshot to the head.
The body of Kelly Winslow was found Friday in Upton, which is west of Bethel and just north of Grafton Notch State Park — 85 miles from her home.
Winslow, 30, was reported missing by her husband Thursday night. State Medical Examiner Margaret Greenwald supervised the recovery of the body Friday, and an autopsy Sunday showed that the death was a homicide.
Police have made no arrests and are releasing little information about the case.
Detectives scoured the home at 5 Mike’s Way in Limington, where Winslow lived with her husband, Patrick G. Dapolito, and four children.
“She was always friendly, always smiling,” said Jennifer Burnham, whose daughter would go to Winslow’s house and play with the children there. “She was great with kids.”
Dapolito and Winslow spent a lot of time gardening outside their house, Burnham said, but she knew little else about their work or hobbies.
Burnham said Winslow’s death is frightening and she has no idea what might have happened to her. “I’m as confused as anyone else is,” she said.
Police would not say why they searched for Winslow in Upton.
Dapolito’s father, Robert Dapolito, lives in Upton and owns more than 100 acres on Back Street, which is off Route 26, said Paul Casey, an assistant assessor for the town.
Police said Winslow’s body was found off Route 26.
Robert Dapolito is not usually in town at this time of year because he goes south for the winter, Casey said.
Police said Patrick Dapolito has cooperated with the investigation.
His phone has been disconnected and he could not be reached for comment.
