Free program
Simple Hand Tools will be the topic of Windham Historical Society’s next public program to be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the public library. Ray Philpot will enlighten us about the implements we’ve taken for granted all these years. A refreshment break after the presentation will be followed by a business meeting. The public is welcome to attend; there is no fee but donations are always welcome and needed. The library is handicapped accessible.
Memorial Day parade
Yes! Windham will have a Memorial Day parade at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, May 31. The parade will be followed by ceremonies at the high school and a public rededication of Field Allen school. Community members and organizations who wish to join Windham veterans and the town may contact Don McCormack (Myngame@aol.com) or Dave Tanguay, service officer, American Legion Post 148, 892-1306. Parade organizers are looking for military service members, veterans, individuals, groups, and organizations including scout groups, youth groups, civic and social groups and any others who would like to help celebrate Memorial Day. They are also looking for color guards, marching units, theme floats and groups in period costume. Antique car, truck and tractor club participation is also welcome. So, show your colors and support for veterans. Come join the parade. Planning on being in the Summerfest parade? Why not get double the exposure and join the Memorial Day parade as well!
Windham Cancer Support Group meeting

its forms. For directions or if you have questions, please call 892-7750 or visit http://windhamcancersupport.webs.com.
Attention gardeners
The Community Garden Committee meets every Monday at 6 p.m. in the room behind the cafeteria at Windham High School to discuss start-up of this new group. Anyone interested in gardening is welcome. Plans are to start the garden in the spring on an acre of town land near the skate park on Route 202 (Gray Road). Snowshoes needed
Manchester School is participating in the Let’s Go 5-2-1-0 Health and Fitness Program. They have been able to purchase some new snowshoes through a grant, but would like to collect more for fourth- and fifth-graders to use. If anyone has new or gently used snowshoes they’d like to donate, please drop them off at the school on Route 302, North Windham.
Free clothing – for all ages
The newly renovated Windham Clothes Closet is open Fridays from 10 a.m. until noon for Windham residents and residents of neighboring towns. It is located in the lower level of the Human Resources building, on Route 202, across from Friends Church. The new entrance is around the building and on the lower level at the back door. Donations are being accepted and now may be left at the back of the building. All items in the Clothes Closet are free. Seniors who come to the food pantry on Thursday morning may also access the food pantry at that time to avoid multiple trips.
Used eyeglasses
The Windham Lions wish to remind the community of its ongoing used eyeglasses project. Old glasses that are no longer needed can be refinished and Lions International will distribute them throughout the world to needy recipients. Donations can be dropped into the Lions eyeglass boxes located at Windham Town Hall, Windham Public Library, the offices of Dr. Colin Robinson and Dr. Roxanne Metayer, Shaw’s and Wal-Mart.

News, please
We know a lot of people in Windham, but we don’t know all the news. We don’t know when people go to the hospital or are recuperating – unless you let us know! Often times, a cheerful card would be welcome. When your group or church or family has an event worth talking about – let us know! All nonprofit organizations can list their meetings here – but please adhere to the deadline (the Friday before the following Friday publication date).
