PORTLAND — It might not count for anything ”“ not officially ”“ but you can’t say it doesn’t matter.

It always matters. Every time Trevor Fleurent takes the ice, it matters.

Little surprise, then, that the shifty Biddeford center brought as much intensity as he could muster to Saturday’s Fix Cup final against Falmouth, at Portland Ice Arena.

He brought the goods, too, scoring three goals ”“ all of them of the highlight reel variety ”“ in the Tigers’ 6-1 triumph, which brought them their second Fix title in three years.

“It’s a big deal,” said Fleurent, who also set up two more goals. “To be able to win it again is a confidence builder.”

The only confidence that might have needed building ”“ or restoring ”“ is that of Falmouth’s Jay Hurdman, who is among the elite high school goalies in Maine.

Last year, Hurdman led all Western Tier I netminders in goals against average [1.86], but was left defenseless against the voracious Tiger attack that bombed in four goals in the second period to snap a scoreless tie.

Two of those tallies came in the opening moments of the stanza, one Trevor Fleurent, the other by his linemate Craig Anton.

The third member of that dangerous troika, younger brother Brady Fleurent, had a hand in both tallies.

“There’s chemistry there,” said Trevor Fleurent. “Anton knows where to find you to give you the puck. And Brady seems to be at the right place at the right time.”

Actually, Brady was flat on the ice when Trevor got his goal.

It was meant to be a give and go, with Trevor making the first pass, but Brady lost his skates at center ice.

Still, he managed to get the puck back to Trevor, who roared in alone on Hurdman.

“He gave me back hand,” said Fleurent, “so I decided to stick with it.”

Anton made it 2-0 just 28 seconds later.

“It’s borderline unfair,” said Biddeford coach Rich Reissfelder. “Every pass is on the tape. It’s so much fun to watch. My job as a coach is to stay out of the way with those three.”

Fleurent scored twice more before the end of the period, once on a three-way play with his linemates, the other, when he picked the pocket of Falmouth freshman defender Jackson Pike.

“It was a hard forecheck,” said Fleurent. “He just kind of lost control and handed it to me. I was all alone.”

Brady Fleurent and Ethan Pratt sealed the result with goals in the third period.

In all, Trevor Fleurent scored six times during the day, having also notched a hat trick in Biddeford’s 7-6 win over Thornton Academy in the first of two semifinals wins.

The Golden Trojans later handed Cape Elizabeth a 7-2 thumping in the consolation game.

Thornton’s Matt Crowley, a pre-season transfer from the Portland Jr. Pirates whose high school eligibilty is being reviewed by the MPA, scored three times.
