A registered sex offender was arrested Sunday on a charge of unlawful sexual contact with a 3-year-old in Westbrook.
Daniel M. Swanciger, 43, Forest Avenue, Portland, was arrested at around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after the child’s mother reported the crime, which she said occurred around Reed Street.
Police said Swanciger, who was known to the victim’s family, had left the scene by the time the officers arrived, but they were able to locate him quickly and take him into custody on a Class B felony charge of unlawful sexual contact and on a warrant charge out of Saco from 2007 for failing to comply with the sex-offender registry act.
Swanciger has two out-of-state convictions for indecent liberties with a child, police said. He was held at Cumberland County Jail.
