The Westbrook American reported on July 15, 1964, that Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bruce of Tucson, Ariz., were the first to sign the guest book when the Baxter Museum opened for the season on July 8 in Gorham. It marked her first visit to the Baxter home, which her grandfather, James Phinney Baxter, gave to the town.
