The annual Alfred Festival Days celebration is generally one of the local summer highlights. This year’s festival, to be held from July 17-19 promises to be no exception.

Besides the annual parade and the chili and chowder challenge, the festival features events that allow participants to get out and enjoy the summer weather while having fun at the same time.

On July 18, the four-mile “Walk or Run for Fun” race will get underway from the start/finish line in front of Alfred Town Hall at 8 a.m. The race starts out on Saco Road, going past the town hall before heading onto Route 202. From Route 202, the course continues onto Shaker Hill Road, then onto Back Road before heading down Route 111. The race finishes by heading back down Saco Road to the town hall.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three runners overall in male and female divisions. Also, there will be awards in six age categories (16 and under, 17-19,20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 plus).

There is a $10 entry fee for racers that register in advance. Registration is $12 on the day of the race. For more information, or to obtain a registration form, visit www.alfredme.us or call the Alfred Town Hall at 324-5872.
