SCARBOROUGH — Reverend Charles “Charlie” Ludeking, 90, died June 19 after a brief illness at his Piper Shores residence with his wife and children at his side.

He was born July 7, 1918, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of Charles and Alice (Sweeney) Ludeking.

He graduated from Columbia Bible College in Columbia, S.C., where he received his bachelor’s degree and later his master’s degree in 1945. He graduated from Andover Theological Seminary School in Newton, Mass. in 1949 and later attended Harvard Divinity School.

In 1946, he married Ann May Petherick in Boston at the Church of the Covenant.

His career was spent as a pastor for Baptist churches in Massachusetts and later in New Hampshire, and he particularly enjoyed conducting vesper services. In 1982, he and his wife retired to their home on the Contoocook River in Concord, N.H. In 2001, they moved to Piper Shores in Scarborough.

He was an active member of the Satuit Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, and an ongoing member of the American Baptist Ministers Association.

His interests included fishing, clamming, and he was well-known for his photography at Piper Shores. He and his wife spent numerous enjoyable vacations travelling to the Caribbean, along the East Coast, and the Alaskan Coast.

He was predeceased by his brother Fred Ludeking of Lindenhurst, N.Y.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ann; four children, Roxanne Wazlaw and her husband Brian of Portsmouth N.H., Jamy Ludeking of Concord N.H., Melanie Comi and her husband Steve of Concord, N.H. and Judson S. Ludeking and his wife Christine of South Hampton, N.H.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for family are private.
