FREEPORT — Joseph Henry “Peter” Madore, 87, died June 3.
He was born on July 10, 1921, in Wallagrass, the eighth child of 13 to George and Alice (Charette) Madore.
In 1936, he joined the National Guard. When World War II began, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in the South Pacific. He received the Bronze Star for Gallantry and was discharged on Aug. 25, 1945.
After the service, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Operating Engineers out of Boston.
On Sept. 9, 1946, he married Dawn I. Hope and had one son, David. After her death on July 25, 1995, he later married Anne Benaris on Oct. 4, 1997.
His interests included square dancing, riding his Kubota tractor and golf cart, and spending time at his camp in Casco.
He is survived by his wife, Anne of Freeport; his son, David of Freeport; brothers Gilman and Richard Madore of Millinocket; three grandchildren, David Jr., of Brunswick, Dorothy of Freeport, and Deidre of Bedford, N.H.; great-granddaughter, Cassidy; three step-children, Ronald Grant of Freeport, Richard Gonye of North Yarmouth, Robin Penrod of Falmouth; five step-grandchildren, Erika, Emily and Bill Penrod, and Thomas and Lauren Gonye.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
