CUMBERLAND FORESIDE — Alicia W. Watson, 91, formerly of Yarmouth, died May 24.

She was born in Bangor on April 13, 1918, a daughter of Marcia (Crowley) and Lester C. Wilbur.

As a young girl, she enjoyed the outdoors and sports, losing her two front teeth at age 12 while playing football.

In 1936, she graduated from Deering High School and later from Westbrook College.

She worked at Unum for over 30 years in human resources.

In 1944, she married James H. Watson at the Fort Williams Chapel in Cape Elizabeth. Together they had one daughter, Jane.

She was a member of First Parish Congregational Church in Yarmouth and the Order of Eastern Star, where she held many leadership positions over the years.

She had an adventurous spirit, and travelled throughout the world by herself. Her interests included knitting, collecting teddy bears and teacups. She will be remembered most for her kindness and for being a strong woman who survived many challenges throughout her life with grace.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, James H. Watson, in 1987, her sister June Clark and her brother Lester C. Wilbur Jr.

Surviving are her daughter, Jane Pate and her husband Jimmy of Cumberland Foreside; her granddaughter, Jennifer Pate of Cumberland Foreside; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held on May 27.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., May 28 at First Parish Congregational Church, 116 Main St., Yarmouth, with a reception to follow in the church Fellowship Hall.
