BRUNSWICK — Roland M. Coulombe, 82, known to friends and family as “Larry” and “Coulie”, died May 22 at the Mid Coast Senior Health Center after a long illness.
He was born on Oct. 18, 1926, in Topsham, the second son of Fenelon and Yvonne (Desrosiers) Coulombe and attended local schools.
In 1944, he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific before receiving an honorable discharge in 1946.
After his service, he worked for Cabot Mill in Brunsiwck until 1955.
In 1957, he became a patrolman for the Town of Brunswick Police Department until he retired in 1977. Later, he worked part-time for Thibeault Oil.
On April 23, 1949, he married Fabienne Sophie Messier at St. John’s Church. Together they enjoyed 60 years of many hobbies and activities, including camping and boating, traveling and entertaining. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother Paul, who was also his best friend. Some of his choke cherry wine still sits in local wine cellars. He loved his home grown tomatoes and rhubarb sauce.
He was predeceased by a brother, Fernand Coulombe of Millville, N.J. and a sister, Yvette Michaud of South Paris.
Surviving are his wife Fabienne of Brunswick; three daughters and their husbands, Janice and James Gay of Williamsburg, Va.; Carol and Thomas Legare of Brunswick and Patricia Ward and Tracy Golmont of Lexington, S.C.; six grandchildren and their families, Andrea and Scott West of Rosamond, Calif., and great-grandchildren Madeline Ann West; Nathan Legare and Sarah King and their daughter Alexis in Stockton Springs; Steven Legare of Somerville, Mass.; Lisa Legare of Brunswick; Renee Ward and Eddie Ward Jr., of Lexington, S.C..; his brother Paul Coulombe and his wife Jeannette of Brunswick; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
