Graffam, Brown wed
Michelle Graffam and Daniel Brown of Edgewater, Fla., were married on Oct. 12.
The wedding, attended by close family members and friends, was at the Pemaquid Lighthouse. The weekend celebration was held at the Bradley Inn, New Harbor. The groom’s close friend Daniel Brinkler officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Ralph and Yvonne Graffam of Gorham.
The groom is the son of Lemuel Brown of Alna and Ann Brown of Port Orange, Fla.
Maids of honor were Tori Nelder and Ellen Brown. Best men were Cameron Nelder and Robert Gniazdowski.
The groom is a merchant mariner. The bride is owner of Graffam Media in Edgewater, Fla.
They will reside in Edgewater and Pemaquid.
Boating education class
Gorham Parks and Recreation Department, 75 South St., is sponsoring a boating safety class 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2; Thursday, June 4, and Tuesday, June 9.
The course is offered through the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and will be taught by state-certified instructors. Topics will include boating laws, boats and equipment, navigation, emergencies, and invasive aquatic plants.
All students must attend all sessions to be eligible to take the final exam. Certificates will be awarded to those successfully completing the course.
Those under 18 must have parental consent and anyone under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $10.

Grants benefit schools
Gorham Educational Foundation has awarded five grants totaling $4,742 to benefit programs in Gorham schools.
The recipients include:
Gorham High School teachers Betsy Anastasoff, Melissa Dennick, Kerry Herlihy, Michael Levine, Josie Tierney-Fife and Jonathan Werner – $1,200 to enhance classroom libraries that will inspire contemporary readers;
Ray Mathieu, Gorham High School – $1,200 to buy four additional keyboards for the Music Department to allow more students to take the music basics class and learn basic composition techniques;
Patti Joyce, Gorham Middle School – $1,200 to expand the capabilities of the TV studio as a resource for teachers and students to use for special video/audio projects in classrooms;
Tracy Wheeler, Gorham Middle School – $742 to buy additional equipment and software to teach keyboarding to seventh-graders, as well as opportunities to explore recording and composition for those in chorus and music class;
Jacquelyn Lortie, Narragansett and White Rock elementary schools – $400 to implement a free summer library reading program to counteract summer reading regression.
The nonprofit Gorham Educational Foundation, founded in 2006, is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in education. In its three years, the foundation has awarded 17 grants totaling $15,000 in support of arts, literacy, technology, science and civic learning.
