Bonny Eagle 5
Westbrook 3
The Bonny Eagle Scots got a strong pitching performance from Sarah Bissonnette and a big sixth inning 2-run double from Connie Grovo to top Westbrook 5-3 at Westbrook on Monday afternoon.
The win moves the Scots, ranked No. 7 in the latest Heal Points, to 7-3 on the season. Westbrook falls to 2-10 with the loss.
The game started out as a close one for the first two innings, as Bissonnette and Westbrook starting pitcher Karlegh Gaudreau each started out with two scoreless innings.
Bonny Eagle drew first blood in the top of the third. Aimee Bradbury smacked a double up the third base line. Bradbury then took third on a passed ball. Jordan VanRosendael then hit a grounder to third, Westbrook third baseman Cori Knott attempted to make a play on Bradbury, but she beat the tag and the Scots had runners on first and third with no outs. After a Stefanie Stockwell ground out moved VanRosendael to second, the Scots loaded the bases on a LaShawna Jackson bunt single.
The Blazes dodged a bullet when Grovo grounded to shortstop Danielle Bouchard and Bouchard threw Bradbury out at the plate for the second out of the inning. However, just when it seemed the Blazes were going to escape unscathed, Messina Provencher ripped a three-run double to left to give the Scots a 3-0 lead.
Westbrook got one back in the bottom of the third. Haley Berry led off with a single through the gap into right field. Allie Souza bunted and beat the throw up the first base line and the Blazes had runners at first and second. Lindsay Driscoll then loaded the bases with a single, and the Blazes had their first scoring threat of the game.
After Bouchard popped out for the first out of the inning, Katelyn Benson grounded back to the pitcher, scoring Berry to make the score 3-1, but that was all the runs the Blazes could manage in the inning.
Westbrook cut into the Scots’ lead in the bottom of the fifth when Souza, who had reached on a walk, stole second and then scored on a throwing error, making the score 3-2.
However, the Scots padded their lead in the top of the sixth as Grovo drove a low pitch into center field with the bases loaded for a two-run double to give the Scots a 5-2 lead.
Westbrook would get one run back in the bottom of the sixth as Knott drove in Gaudreau with a single, however Ashlyn Bourgeois was thrown out at home on a close play, ending the inning. Neither team was able to score in the seventh, and the Scots secured their sixth consecutive win by a 5-3 score.
