The photo on the left shows Westbrookâs first motorized fire truck (circa 1916) in front of the old wooden fire station that was built in the 1890s to house the Presumpscot Hose Co., one of two organized fire companies in the city. Valentine Hose Co. occupied a station on Mechanic Street. The building was erected to house a horse and a fire wagon. The station was closed when the new fire station at 41 Cumberland St. opened in 1947, center photo.
The old station, located off Main Street at the end of a driveway across from the present-day Rite Aid Store, is now gone. The fire department moved from 41 Cumberland St. to the new public safety building several years ago.
