Aero 9 Al’s Variety 8
Aero and Al’s Variety played a classic game on Saturday, going nine innings before Aero prevailed 9-8. Garrett McDonald pitched a masterful game for Al’s, striking out seven. Ian Cory led the way on the mound for Aero notching 7 Ks.
Al’s lead 2-0 going into the 5th inning when key base hits from the bottom of the order and Jack Vincent left the bases loaded for McDonald, who proceeded to belt a grand slam to give Al’s a 6-0 lead. Aero didn’t give up in their half of the 5th by cutting the lead in half with key base hits by Austin Pemberton, Jack Hughes and Corey.
Wyatt Bridgham came in to the game for Aero in the 6th inning and pitched himself out of a jam holding Al’s scoreless. Aero was able to tie the game in the 6th with three runs scoring Jake Robertson, Henry Cummings and Nick Lorello.
The game remained scoreless until the 9th when Vincent hit a towering home run to dead center to give Al’s an 8-6 lead. Aero made the best of their half of the 9th inning by tying the game at eight on runs by Hughes and Sean McGovern. Nico Onorato scored the winning run for Aero, giving Aero the win, 9-8.
Lions 4 Cornerstone 1
The Lions and Cornerstone started their seasons with a pitchers’ duel. Matt Gedaro started for Cornerstone, and recorded 10 strikeouts in 4+ innings. Justin Reynolds scored on an error in the 1st, but the Lions were held in check until J.T. DeGrinney, Sam Warren, Nick Frizzle, and Bradley Rockey combined to drive in three runs in the 4th.
Sam Elliot and Lucas Albert closed for Cornerstone to stop the scoring. Sam Warren started for the Lions and also struck out 10 in 4+ innings. Cornerstone broke through in the 4th when Matt Caron doubled to knock in John Timpson. Frizzle closed for the Lions and struck out three, but the Lions narrowly escaped with the victory when Caron hit a bases loaded, two-out line drive right at left fielder Connor Jefferds to end the game.
Michaud Distributors 4 Grass Catchers 3
Michaud Distributors defeated Grass Catchers 4 – 3 at Wiley Field on Saturday. Tim Ross pitched 4.2 innings and recorded 11 strikeouts, while walking four batters and giving up three hits. Matt Aceto came on in relief and recorded three strikeouts and gave up one hit. Austin Hancock had two hits and two RBIs and Robbie Hatem and Aceto each had one hit and one RBI for Michaud. Grass Catchers scored one run in the first inning and two in the fifth. Sam Freeman was left stranded at second base after doubling in the sixth inning with two outs. Nate Wessel and Sam Freeman also singled in the first inning.
