BRUNSWICK — Joseph A. Fortin, 91, died April 29 at the Bodwell House.
He was born in Brunswick on Feb. 12, 1918, the son of Joseph R. Fortin and Alice Menard and attended St. John’s School.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he worked at Bath Iron Works as a pipefitter and later at Brunswick Naval Air Station in maintenance until his retirement in 1976.
He was an avid Bowdoin College hockey fan who attended every home game for almost 30 years.
On July 1, 1940, he married Marguerite M. Masse at St. John’s Church in Brunswick.
He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite on May 11, 1983, and six sisters, Marie Anne Ouellette, Therese Fortin, Geraldine Masse, Emillienne Lavigne, Gabrielle Fortin, and Justine Fortin, and one brother, Francois Fortin.
He is survived by three daughters, Monique Potee and her fiancée, Leo Bouchard of Brunswick, Lucille Jeffery and her husband Paul of Topsham, and Pauline Gallagher and her husband John of Bath; two grandsons, Leon L. Potee III and his wife Mary of Houston, and John J. Gallagher and his wife Catherine of Brunswick; one great-grandchild, Noelle Potee of Houston; three sisters, Gemma Seyfried of New Hyde Part, New York, Rita Fortin of Brunswick, and Flavia Dudley and her husband Thomas of Brunswick, and a brother, Chanel Fortin of Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held last week.
