Westbrook-based Disability RMS, a provider of turnkey disability risk management products and services, has named Kevin J. Tierney as vice president and general counsel.

Previously, Tierney had served as an arbitrator and mediator of reinsurance disputes, advising a variety of insurance, reinsurance and corporate clients through his private legal practice.

Tierney brings to his new position more than 30 years of experience in the disability insurance industry, a

significant portion of which has been focused on the disability reinsurance market. Prior to joining Disability RMS, Tierney held a variety of leadership positions within Unum’s legal department, ultimately serving as its senior vice president and general counsel. He earned his undergraduate degree from

Bowdoin College and a law degree from the University of Maine Law School.
