Applications for grants from both the Recreational Trail Program and the Land and Water Conservation Fund now are available from the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands, according to BPL officials.

Last year, Recreational Trail Program grants provided more than $1 million for trail development in Maine. Grants are awarded for construction and maintenance of recreational trails.

Land and Water Conservation Fund grants last year provided $220,000 to projects throughout Maine. The grants are for municipal outdoor recreation facility development and/or acquisition.

A fully completed application must be submitted on or before Aug. 23. A preapproval site inspection by a BPL representative must be made to qualify the proposed site for funding. Requests for site inspections should be made before June 23.

Applications for both grants are available online at www.state.me.us/doc/parks/programs/community/index.html.
