Seniors to dine
Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at noon on Monday, April 20, at Mill Brook Estate, 300 East Bridge St., for a chicken dinner. Entertainment will be a little jazz with Jonas Smith.
The seniors are planning a trip to Luciano’s Lake Pearl in Wrentham, Mass., to see the Four Aces on Wednesday, May 13. For more information, call 854-2292 or 854-2705.
Poets to read at Walker
Westbrook poet Nancy Henry along with Bruce Spang and Michael Macklin will be reading their recently published poems at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St.
The works appear in “Agreeable Friends: Contemporary Animal Poetry,” published by Westbrook’s Moon Pie Press.
“Agreeable Friends” features the work of 46 poets from all over the country, including Westbrook’s Ed Rielly, Alice Pearsons and Henry. Twenty Moon Pie Press poems have been featured on NPR’s “The Writer’s Almanac.”
All proceeds from the sale of this book go to support the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals in Windham.
WJHS band excels
The Wescott Junior High School Jazz Band recently took second place in Division 1 in the Maine State Middle School Jazz Festival at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport. Andrew Lamson received an outstanding musicianship award for trumpet. The junior high band is directed by Krystle Y. Smith.
50th anniversary plans
Former Westbrook residents Bill and Charlene Kerr of Bradenton, Fla., will be here for their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 13. The couple will celebrate with their children Kim Ambrose of Standish, Robin Martin of Buxton, and Larry Kerr of Buxton along with four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bill Kerr served with the U.S. Marines and worked for American Steel. Charlene worked in the service industry and is now a home health care assistant.
