Kudos to Westbrook’s music students and teachers. TThroughout the week of March 30, we were entertained by the Spring Concert series of band and chorus music from fifth-grade students to high school seniors.
If you haven’t heard these students, you’re missing a lot. Westbrook’s music students are ranked among the very best in our state, and they are proud of their unfair share of well-earned personal and group recognitions.
Coming up on April 10 at 7 p.m. at the high school cafeteria, you can swing to the Junior and Senior High jazz bands. Honestly, folks, these bands are professional grade. Also on the schedule are Westbrook’s All-City Concerts – one for the band on May 12 at 7 p.m. in the high school gym, the other for chorus on May 13 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The band concert, for example, will begin with fifth-grade music, work its way up through the high school concert band and wind ensemble, concluding with all students playing the final piece. That’s right – all students. Westbrook’s band students will be able to completely cover the entire basketball court. (Personally, when the high-schoolers play from “Pirates of the Caribbean,” we’re fixing our eyes on the fifth-graders.)
We hope you’ll come out and share your time. In return, you’ll go home with a burst of pride for our incredible student talent and the also incredible staff who bring out our children’s best.
